Implementing the Presentation Model Pattern in Swift

For the last few years, almost all of the Flex projects I've worked on have used the Presentation Model (PM) pattern along with the Parsley application framework for dependency injection. Broadly speaking, a presentation model holds the presentational state and behavioural logic of an application and, in doing so, minimises the amount of code in view controls. Because several views can utilise the same presentation model, properties such as state can be shared between them.Views hold a strongly typed reference to the presentation model so they can, for example, invoke methods on it. The presentation model itself has no knowledge of the views and, in the case of Flex and Parsley, (translate)

Panning, Pinch Zooming and Sub Component Dragging in UIScrollView with Swift

The user interface in my node based image compositing and editing application, Nodality, consists of a large scrollable and zoomable workspace where the user can create and move nodes. This blog post describes creating a similar interface in Swift using UIScrollView (for Flex developers, UIScrollView is analogous to Scroller but with built in support for pinch to zoom). For this demonstration, I've created three custom components: BackgroundControl extends UIControl and is the container for the background grid and newly created nodes.BackgroundGrid extends CALayer and simply draws a dark gray grid.Node also extends UIControl and forms the blue nodes created by a long hold on the background. It handles its (translate)

Question : How to print content of flex viewer using asp button in client side using javascript ? Answer : $FlexPaper(flx).printPaper(‘current’);  should work fine for printing the current page. As should $FlexPaper(flx).printPaper(‘1-3’); if you want to specify a range or $FlexPaper(flx).printPaper(‘all’); for all pages.  Question : Online PDF-VIewer. Disallow PDF-Download. However dynamically allow / disallow Printing. Answer : You can accomplish this in either of our viewers - I would recommend downloading the desktop publisher for zine. Make sure the download button isn’t enabled before exporting your publication. Question : How do I switch between Tile and Flipview switchmode? Populating a UIPickerView in Swift

I thought it would be an interesting exercise to add a picker control (which Flex developers will know as a SpinnerList) to my dial based colour picker. The new control has a hard coded list of colours - if one of those colours is selected, it updates the RBG and CMYK dial controls and conversely, when either dial control creates a colour that is a match to the picker, it sets its selected item accordingly.Rather than extending the UIPickerView, I opted for composition and added an instance my new component, ColorSpinner which is an extended UI control. UIPickerViews require two important properties - a (translate)

Creating a Numeric Dial Control in Swift for iOS

One of the components I created for my Nodality iOS application was a numeric dial control - essentially, a numeric slider with a circular track. Creating custom components is a breeze with Flex and I thought it would be an interesting project to create a similar control in Swift. My first port of call was to head over to Ray Wenderlich and follow this brilliant tutorial. The first step is to extend the UIControl class. This is the base class for user interface controls and is the basis for components such as buttons. It implements the target-action pattern which means it can notify (translate)
