Twitter Lists
A created a couple of lists on Twitter recently. You can view and even follow these to keep up with all the cool stuff we talk about. If you don't use twitter, you can think of these as newsfeeds. You can heard about stuff at the moment things come up in our tech world. One is focused on ColdFusion and the other naturally Flex. http://twitter.com/john_mason_/flexhttp://twitter.com/john_mason_/coldfusion (translate)
iPhone restore errors 1602 and 1604
I recently upgraded my new iPhone to 3.1.2 and ran into several problems. Luckily, I could figure out the root of the problem. In researching this you will get a lot for bogus solutions like reinstalling iTunes, etc. The root of this problem is a connection issue between iTunes and the iPhone usually around the USB line. Apple has made the upgrading of the firmware more complex lately to block people from jailbreaking their phones. The method they use involves disconnecting and reconnecting during the upgrade a few times. So any problem with the connection could result in a 1602 (translate)
ColdFusion 10 - Wish List
I did this for ColdFusion 9 while it was under its initial development, and even though 9 just came out earlier this week. It's time again to reflect and come up with new features for ColdFusion 10 (codename Link). The team at Adobe will soon be compiling their own list of features, so this is the time to pitch your idea. Feel free to comment to this and add anything I may have missed. While attending the CF Unconference at Adobe Max, there were several times where we sat around and were brainstorming on new features. This is the list I (translate)
cfUpdater update
Just posted an updater to cfUpdater. Fixed a bug in the cleanfeed() method and added additional settings in case you need to route the http requests through a proxy server. Thanks to Paul Connell for spotting the bug and the missing proxy settings. You can download the project from.. http://www.codfusion.com/blog/page.cfm/projects/cfUpdater (translate)
cfUpdater - CF Update Manager
Just posted a new project on RIAForge. It's called cfUpdater. It's a free and open source project and custom extension tool for the ColdFusion Administrator to make handling and managing ColdFusion updates easier. This tool is based on the CF Update manager found in my Merlin Manager project and runs off of the CF RSS feeds I manage. You can alter this to pull from an internal RSS feed if needed. This project also includes an auto updater which emails reports to you of updates it was able to install and others that you will be required to install manually. (translate)
Merlin Manager is now in public beta
The title pretty much says it. My Merlin Manager application is now in public beta. If you haven't heard about it yet. It's an AIR based application for remotely managing multiple ColdFusion 7, 8 and/or 9 servers. Similar in some ways with the CF9 AIR Manager, but franky to be honest I like Merlin is better :) It works on more server versions and currently has more features. (translate)
ColdFusion RSS Feeds
This has been something I've been bugged about for some time. There isn't a dependable RSS feed for ColdFusion updates and security patches. Well, it finally came to the point where I'll needed to create my own to power the CF updater in the Merlin Manager. I figure since I had to create/manage this that I might as well open it open to everyone to reference. I routed them through FeedBurner so they will be cached at Google and be very dependable. Adobe acquisition of Omniture
I felt it worth the time to post some thoughts on the Adobe acquisition of Omniture. As many of you know, I do investments and keep track of the business side of our tech world. The Omniture acquisition may work out but I suspect probably not, and here are the reasons. First, Omniture hasn't made any money yet and was never likely to. It lost $44 million last year (mostly from expensive operating costs) and lost $9 million the year before that. The technology they have is interesting but nothing that couldn't be reproduced. Yes, Microsoft was interested in Omniture (translate)
New features in CF 9 on the RIApodcast
Just posted another episode of the RIApodcast where we discuss some of the new features coming in ColdFusion 9. We'll probably do an episode in the future on just the hibernate integration, but this one covers many of the other items that you may not have heard about yet. You can download the podcast from either iTunes or by going to RIApodcast.com (translate)
